For safety and style, we installed a complete steel railing system by Fortress (FE 26 Iron), including both the top rail and vertical bars—one of the strongest and most reliable options on the market. Knee braces and engineered lateral bracing ensured the deck’s structural integrity, while the landing and stairs provided smooth, safe access down to the stone patio.
Addressing Challenges & Improving Functionality

- Deck posts: One of the original deck’s support posts had been installed atop a half‑wall as its base. We extended the deck and repositioned that post outside the wall’s footprint, creating a cleaner and more balanced look. The previous deck had four support posts, but the homeowners wanted to open the space up as much as possible. For the rebuild, we installed new 6′ x 6′ posts with decorative wrapping supported with knee braces and a larger triple main beam to accommodate the span which allowed us to reduce the number of support posts maintaining strong stability and resistance to lateral movement.
- Masonry Piers: To tie the new deck visually to the home’s design, our mason installed brick‑faced piers at the base of two deck posts. While they are strictly decorative, they matched the home’s brick exterior perfectly for a cohesive, high‑end finish.
