Hardscaping in Fuquay-Varina, North Carolina
Fuquay-Varina, originally known as “Piney Woods,” has a rich history that dates back to the early 1800s. In 1858, landowner William Fuquay discovered a mineral spring on his property, attracting visitors seeking its healing properties. During the Civil War, a local soldier married a Fayetteville woman who had used “Varina” as her pen name, and he opened and named the town’s store and post office after her. As rail lines were built nearby, the area became known as Varina Station. Fuquay Springs was incorporated in 1909 and merged with Varina in 1963, forming the Fuquay-Varina we know today.
In recent years, Fuquay-Varina has emerged as one of the fastest-growing towns in North Carolina. Its population has surged from about 18,000 in 2010 to an expected 50,000 by 2025—an impressive annual growth rate of over 6%. The opening of the new 540 toll road has greatly improved access to the area, accelerating both residential and commercial development. Despite this rapid expansion, the town has maintained its rich heritage, offering a charming downtown district filled with locally owned eateries, unique boutiques, and inviting green spaces that contribute to its small-town appeal.
