We recently had the pleasure of helping a local homeowner reclaim their backyard by turning a steeply sloped yard into a level, functional, fenced-in space complete with a custom putting green.
The property’s natural steep slope made much of the yard difficult to use and prone to erosion. Installing posts directly into the ground, each with its own concrete footing, keeps systems independent—so the fence load never interferes with the retaining wall’s structural integrity or drainage.
To anchor each post securely, we used cardboard tube molds to form precise concrete foundations. This approach allowed the concrete to cure evenly and maintain full strength while preventing loose soil from weakening the mix. The clean, uniform shape of these posts provided a solid base for the railing and minimized concrete waste. We finished the area with small decorative stones instead of grass, creating a clean, cohesive look between the retaining wall and iron fence while eliminating the need for mowing or trimming.

 To complete the transformation, we installed a custom putting green along the side of the house—an inviting feature that adds both recreation and charm to the backyard.
