Realizing the need for a more reliable solution, the homeowner consulted with Hardscapes of Holly Springs. During the consultation, they decided to change directions and opted for a freestanding pergola which in Cary, does not require permits. The front yard had a steep upward slope, so the team began by rebuilding the retaining wall into the hill. Next, the team constructed a stunning freestanding pergola with horizontal slatted planks on the back and sides. This design created a more enclosed space, giving the pergola a carport-like feel. This innovative design not only fulfilled the homeowner’s aesthetic preferences but also resolved the practical challenges of the previous attempts.
