Part of being an experienced hardscaping contractor is knowing how to work best with your surrounding environment. Once you learn to build, it can be tempting to tear it all down and build everything new. Although there are times that may be unavoidable, there are plenty of other times that call for creative solutions to save you time and money. Read on to learn about three projects that called for creative solutions!
Transitions
This tranquil garden in Holly Springs includes both formal and relaxed areas with a sculptural element serving as a divider between the two spaces. The base of the sculpture interfered with our plans for the stone walkway, so we decided to highlight the transition using flagstaff, a complimentary stone. What could have been a roadblock turned into part of the design!
Pesky Tree Roots
This North Raleigh home backs up to a greenway creating a fully wooded lot. Although the homeowners loved their backyard oasis, the trees’ vast root system made a paved walkway impossible. After their dogs tore up the gravel path “solution” they came up with on their own, they called us for help. We installed a floating deck walkway that enhances the natural beauty of the yard while allowing plenty of room for the tree roots to grow underneath.
No Clear Path
In this project, the client needed to access their woodpile at the bottom of a steep sloping yard, but there was no clear path to follow. This project was especially unique given that we needed to work around pool equipment, an existing wall, existing landscaping, and the steep slope. At one pointe there was only 22″ clearance between the bamboo and an access panel for the pool equipment. The homeowners wanted to keep the bamboo because it provided needed support to the nearby evergreens. Ultimately, we came up with a design involving 16 steps, two turns, and one landing. The new design allows the door to the access panel to fully open while keeping the bamboo in place.
